The Southern California Half Marathon & 5K evolved from the success that Woodbridge High School enjoyed in the renowned Woodbridge High School Cross Country Classic. The Half Marathon & 5K are hosted to benefit Woodbridge High School athletics as well as the other Irvine schools whose runners participate in the race.
The Half Marathon has grown substantially over the last sixteen years. There were about 950 runners in the first year of the Half Marathon. Last year over 4,500 runners participated in what has become a premier running event in Southern California.
The race has earned the honor of being an official warm-up race for the L.A. Marathon, the O.C. Marathon and has developed a partnership with Students Run LA to give "at risk" students from Southern California the opportunity to train and complete the L.A. Marathon.
The race has enjoyed the continuous support of various parts of the Irvine Community: The City of Irvine, The Irvine Company, Einstein’s Bagels, Claim Jumpers, Panera Bread Restaurant, the Irvine Ranch Water District, Hansen's Drink, Paradise Bottled Water, American Senior Living and Tustin Lexus to name a few.

Team Competition
The Southern California Half Marathon & 5K welcomes and encourages running teams and clubs from the Southern California area to participate in our events and compete for awards against other running teams/clubs of similar make up. We have the venue and interest in becoming the race that will bring together the running clubs/teams from our area to compete against each other.
As many clubs as we have, the Southern California area does not do a good job of staging an event where the clubs can be featured. We want to be that event. We feel that racing under this format will not only encourage the team members to train more often and harder but the racing will enhance their development as the workout pace increases with the racing.
DIVISIONS OF COMPETITION
DIVISIONS OF COMPETITION
- Public – law-enforcement departments, fire departments, church groups, charity-affiliated clubs
- Corporate – Private businesses and corporations
- Open – A club with no affiliation to one of the above special groups

- All team members must pre-register.
- Registration is by mail.
- Be sure that each member writes the name of the team on the entry form.
- The Team Captain should collect all the registrations and send them in at the same time with payment.
- If at all possible, the Team Captain should send an Excel spreadsheet of all the members planning to race to double check that we have all the members credited to the team.
- We can set up an area aside for a team camp. Just have the Team Captain contact the Race Director.
- We will give a 10% discount to teams with 20 or more runners participating in the event.
